Eligibility conditions
You must be an adult individual residing in Morocco or meeting required residence conditions. Certain activities are excluded or subject to specific authorisations (regulated professions, licensed activities).
The status cannot be combined with certain salaried or regulated functions. Check incompatibilities before starting — full-time employment may restrict or prohibit self-employed status depending on your contract.
Choose the right activity code at registration: it determines your flat income tax rate (1% services / 0.5% trade), revenue cap (200k / 500k MAD), and AMO calculation base (50% / 20% of revenue).
Documents to prepare

Valid national ID card (CIN).
Recent proof of address (utility bill, residence certificate).
Diplomas, certifications or professional authorisations if your activity requires them.
Active phone number and email for RNAE account validation.
Registration steps on ae.gov.ma
Create your account on the official RNAE platform (ae.gov.ma) with your personal details.
Select your activity from the nomenclature. If unsure between services and trade, choose the code closest to your actual work — the wrong code affects tax and cap.
Submit your application and wait for validation. A self-employed number is assigned after administrative review.
Request or verify your ICE (Common Enterprise Identifier): essential for compliant invoicing.
After registration: the first 30 days
Affiliate with CNSS / AMO within required deadlines. Affiliation opens social rights and activates flat contribution payments.
Open a dedicated business bank account if possible: tracking collections makes declarations, cap monitoring and audits easier.
Issue your first invoice with mandatory details. Our free generator guides you on the compliant format (ICE, AE number, VAT not applicable).
Plan periodic declarations from the first month of activity — including periods with no collections.
Common registration mistakes
Choosing a trade activity code when you sell intellectual services: wrong cap and wrong income tax rate.
Forgetting ICE before the first invoice: clients and DGI expect this identifier on every document.
Starting to invoice without CNSS affiliation: regularisation possible but penalties and temporary loss of rights.
Not checking incompatibility with existing salaried employment.
